Placements

Ministry and mission placements are located in parishes, schools, and chaplaincies

The College is set in the West Riding of Yorkshire, one of the most vibrant parts of England – near Leeds, Bradford, Manchester and Sheffield, as well as a number of smaller towns and villages. Ministry and mission placements are located in parishes, schools, and chaplaincies in many of these cities and towns, as well as in more rural local areas. Some local placements offer students the opportunity to have a part in ministry in settings where Christianity is not the majority religion.

Throughout the first year of ordination training at the College, students have a term-time parish placement. This pattern is repeated for those with an intermediate year.

In the final year, all students have two sector placements. The first of these examines parochial work in schools; the second is an elective, chosen from a range of options including hospital, hospice, prison, university and industrial chaplaincy.

In the summer, ordinands undertake longer placements in both ministry and mission settings. These placements take place throughout the UK and overseas. Settings for recent summer placements have included the Lutheran Cathedral in Gotland, Sweden, the Taizé Community, HM Prison Wandsworth, the 2008 Lambeth Conference, and parochial ministry in Barbados.
